How to Perfect Your Ramp Walk

“She shines like a diamond when she walks into a room, she can charm the stars and hypnotize the moon.” - Clay Walker

The Ramp! Every model’s dream. Anyone who is a model or aspires to be one knows the importance of the ‘ramp walk’. Whether you’re on the ramp or in a room, you must learn to move with the grace of a gazelle.

The ramp walk is very different from your normal walk and requires professional training and technique along with confidence, the right attitude and lots of oomph!

To get the catwalk right, the first thing to focus upon is posture. One must stand tall in all their glory, keep their shoulders back (no slouching please!) and look straight ahead at the cameras or at a point on the wall without directly focusing on the lights.

Since the audience will be seated below you, keep your face at an angle slightly tilted downwards for everyone to see. The expression of the face must be natural. You must neither smile nor look grim.

Let the arms follow a rhythmic movement along with the rest of the body. Without being too stiff or too swingy.

Take long natural strides which will make you look tall and sway your hips in a bounce along with the beats of the music, which makes you enjoy the walk as much as the audience will enjoy looking at you.

Modeling is a far cry from comfortable footwear and requires you to wear high heels at all times. One must have a great deal of practice to walk in heels or else it can lead to an embarrassing moment on the ramp. While your hands must be slightly opened without being curled into fists but not stiff open to make them look robotic.

And last but not the least, the MOST integral element to get that walk right is oodles of confidence and sex appeal. When you reach the end of the ramp and you pause and you pose, you must slay your audience with a smoldering and seductive look.

So, get on that stage and set it on fire with your poise, personality, and finesse and walk it like you own it.
